Route 66 is on the move, and we are settling into the gorgeous (and dancer-friendly!) Turk’s Head on Parliament Street, just at the edge of Temple Bar!
Some of you already know the Turk’s Head already have weekly Tango and Salsa nights, so they are very welcoming of dancers. Best of all, we’ll once again have our own space and our own toilets! 😉
Also, we’ll be able to run until 11 p.m. again (or — whisper it — perhaps even later if there’s still people dancing and they’re in no particular rush to scoot you out!), which will be music to the ears of the hard-core set. 🙂
Because we’ll be finishing at the later time again, we’re on the lookout for people who would like to do guest DJ sets from 10 p.m. until finish time — i.e. whenever you decide to stop or they kick you out, whichever comes first. 😉 So drop us an email if you’re interested. Needless to say, guest DJs will get into the night for free whenever they’re doing a set.
Another change we’re making is to the beginners East Coast Swing class at 8 p.m. Most Thursday nights from now on, the basic step will be taught as triple-step rather than single-step. This will allow us to slow down the average tempo of the music a bit to more Lindy-friendly levels. Again, I know this will make the hard-core crowd happy. 😉
We really want to kick off with a bang, so we are officially declaring the first night a DRESS-UP NIGHT! So brush off your fanciest duds and get yourself down to the Turk’s Head on the 14th for some high-class high steppin’! Also, anyone who brings a special flyer will get into Route 66 for FREE the first time they come down to the Turk’s Head! (NOTE: Not limited to the launch night on the 14th; if you have a flyer, bust it out any time you make to the new venue FOR THE FIRST TIME and you’ll get in free!)
“But where can I get one of these magical flyers?” I hear you asking. Just come on down to Route 66 at Q Bar either of our final 2 nights there (March 31st or April 7th) to pick one up (and say a last goodbye to what has been our home for the last 2 years or so)! And if you have any friends who you think might want one (especially anyone you’ve been trying to convince to start dancing), grab one for them too!
Finally, one last bit of coolness to leave you with:
For those of you who are familiar with the Turk’s Head, we’ll be in the “Bistro”, the bar area in the rear (not downstairs in the club, but in the “upstairs,” i.e. the ground-level bar). In the main bar (the “front” bar, as it were) on Thursdays, they have a (free!) reggae band that starts playing at around 10:20 or 10:30! (Don’t worry, there are measures to ensure the noise won’t affect us too much.) So come out for a bit of Swing dancing and stay after for a bit of cool live music! Thursdays just got a whole lot groovier! 😉
Finally +1: Be sure to join us on Facebook and Twitter! “Like” our Boogie Beat Swing page on Facebook (rather than friending the Boogie Beat Swing account, if you know what I mean), and follow us on Twitter: @boogiebeatswing. We’ll be using them a lot more to make announcements about upcoming nights (guest DJs, “theme” set lists, etc.), and especially with Twitter we’ll be making announcements for promotions, e.g. passwords that will get you a couple of Euro off at the door, etc. So be sure not to miss out, and sign up today!
(I think that’s everything. Is that everything? I think it is. I’ll let you know if it’s not.)
All the best,
Jamie and Clare
